"Dreamverse"

(working title)

Imagine that whenever you dream, you are actually creating a "universe", for lack of a better word.

When you wake up, either it disappears or maybe it continues on without you.  I have not decided, but I have no need for it to continue on in the story.

I've had a few rare dreams in my life where I felt like I was completely in foreign territory.  Dream knowledge told me nothing.  It felt like I was in someone else's dream, or something.

Imagine if two people dreaming at the same time are in a similar enough mindset that their dreams join.

This story takes place in a particular dream that has been ongoing for a very long time, because it just so happens that some of the people having it are in comas in real life.

On rare occasion, regular people manage to pop in.

Sometimes, those people are able to have a mindset similar enough that they can return.

This universe is the creation of various different people's dreams, so you can have limited control over the reality of it.

The rules are that you can control part of another person's dream as long as they are not actively controling it themselves.

Either they consciously allow it, or they just are not paying attention.

But whatever environment someone creates, it remains until someone else can change it.

One guy in a coma is the villain.  It was his dream originally, but he has a real bad dude.

Other people came in, including another guy in a coma who was a good guy who, let's say, had a lot of practice controling his dreams and always had fun with it.

Not meant to be me, btw.

When he went into the coma, he popped into the bad guy's dream, and over time, was able to make at least part of that dreamverse a decent place.

Since there are various different people there, it's like an ongoing battle with "armies".

  I admit that it's a little Matrix-ee, but that's not the inspiration.

Anyway, the good guy and bad guy are both very powerful, and good was by far winning, but the bad guy tricked the good guy into a rare situation.

He tricked him into falling asleep in the dream, so the good guy's mind was now trapped in a totally different dreamverse, and since he was in a coma, he had no way out of it.

The remaining forces for good get gradually beaten back to a point, but they manage to hold their own after a while.

Some time later, the hero character pops in.  He also is pretty powerful, but he does not have the benefit of being in a coma, so he is often brought out of the dream by real life things, or simply by trying to control too much.

  That's the "me" character.

It's something that would be a great movie because of the scenery and fantastic visuals and effects.

  There would be dream battles.

One of the things about "allowing" others to change what you created is that the story let's you explore the concept of self-control.

Even if you are actively controling a monster, it's possible that someone else can destroy it if you subconciously are intimidated by them or the "dream"-whatever they are doing to you or your monster.
