"The Premise"

This trilogy is inspired by RPG computer games (primarily Realms of Arkania), so you might say that the male, lead character is my avatar.

I know that many aspects of this story will resemble the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but the idea came quite a while before those movies were made, and I have never read the books.  I had only ever seen the cartoon of it, and that was when I was rather young.

The point is that this is not a Lord of the Rings rip-off.

The story takes place on two different planets, definitely, but I have not decided if they are two different dimensions as well.  What is on Earth takes place in modern time.  The other planet is more like a fantasy realm, but time passes differently in comparison.

One week on Earth equals one year on the other planet, and travel between the two is through a created portal.  I still have not named the other planet.

One of the main concepts of the story is that this other planet is basically the source of many of our ideas of fantasy creatures.  Our idea of elves exists, not because someone just imagined one, but because they exist on the other planet, and travel through a portal has exposed them to humans.

Many creatures originate there, but more importantly, the Earth idea of magic originated there.

The laws of physics, in the general sense, are not really any different from Earth.  Apart from the temporal difference, the single most significant difference is that being on that planet somehow allows you to connect better to everything around you, for lack of a better way of putting it.

This planet allows the concept of mind over matter to flourish, and that alone has had the single greatest influence on the course of intelligent life on the planet.

This connection and level of influence over the physical world is why they are less technologically advanced than humans, even though they have been around for considerably longer.

But it's not like it was happening from day one.

The progression of their mental advancement was not too unlike the progression of our technological advancement, except that it was slower.

This connection was never really understood.  There was never really a spotlight on it, because no truly impressive achievements were commonplace.  Many were believed to be tricks.

There was one man, however, who developed an understanding of this connection.  During the course of his life, he learned more and more, and was ultimately responsible for the birth of the conscious and practical use of this connection.

It definitely took time for the rest of the world to learn, but it was a blinding speed in comparison to all of it previous evolution.  This man's name was Maljek.  By no choice of his own, the ability was eventually named after him.

This ability, such as it is on Earth is known as Maljek, or Magic, if you prefer, but on Earth, it is still barely to its infancy.

The title of the trilogy is The Legacy of Maljek.
