"The Skills"

Maljek:

No one knows the science of it, but it is basically the exertion of your will over matter.  For healers, it would be something like stimulating cell regeneration.

It's easier to "control" living things that are already prone to activity than it is to "control" inanimate things.  Since all matter is made up of sub-atomic particles in motion, then skills like telekinesis are possible, however, no one has achieved that ability.

For warriors, maljek allows them to enhance skills like speed and dexterity, and even strength.

Soul Infusion:

This is not limited to weapons, but it is with weapons that this is the most useful and effective.

You have to put yourself into the proper mindset, which is not easily achieved, and while in this mindset, you have to forge the weapon yourself.

You do not have to complete the job in one sitting, although it does make for a better infusion, but you must be in that mindset any time you are working on it.  It is also best if no one else is around and if no one else touches the weapon before its completion.

This mindset puts every atom in that matter in tune with you.  Whatever skill level you might have with any normal sword, you will be notably better with your own soul infused sword.

Transversely, if someone else uses your soul infused sword, then they will not be able to use it as skillfully as they would a normal sword.  It will always not feel right to them.

Clairvoyance:

I would have to come up with a better word, since I'm not sure just how accurate that one is, but this is the ability to sense the location of something of a particular quality, whether the thing is known or unknown to actually exist, as long as it actually does exist.

For instance, if you lost an item that was yours, then you would get into the proper mindset, and then the general sense of its location would come to you as intuitive.

Since the possible extent of any application of maljek is limitless, it is possible that you could actually get a perfect image of the location in your mind, but no one has ever become that skillful.  At best, you feel compelled towards its location.

However, lets say you are looking for a particular kind of person, but not one whom you know.  You focus on those very specific qualities, and then you will intuitively know where and how to find them.

Portals:

The greatest and most rare skill ever achieved with maljek.  It requires intensely deep meditation and, far more often than not, the combined efforts of two or more individuals.

It is virtually unheard of for a single person to open a portal, but it is also tricky for multiple people to do it, because they have to have their thoughts sufficiently aligned.

Since it is so difficult, the opening of a portal is typically reserved for something significant.
