"The Cast: Scene 2"

The scene changes to Earth, in modern time.  In an apartment living room, we find two college students.

One is, let's call him, Mike, and the other... Crysta.

Mike is a white male.  His physical age is about 23, in good shape, and about 5'8".  Crysta is a black female, about 21 years old, effortlessly lean (not to be confused with skinny), and about 5'10".

She is at his apartment because they have a class together, and they are helping each other study.  They don't really hang out together, but they do like each other as study partners, for lack of an adequate study partner in anyone else.

He is a generally level-headed person.  Not shy, but not all too outgoing.

She's a smart person, but has a somewhat abrasive personality.  She's the kind of person who would say, "You did NOT just do that", in a voice a little to loud, but she wouldn't do it often.

She'll get in your face, but she usually does not have a reason to take it that far.  She's bold, willful and unapologetic, but not to the point where she annoys people with it.

At some point, there is mention of a brochure on Mike's coffee table.  Some rich businessman has commissioned scientists and blacksmiths to combine ancient skill with modern technology to create what is basically the best sword ever made.

It's made of an alloy that exceeds steel's balance of strength flexibility, and it's laser-sharpened at a mathematically perfect angle.  The handle is made of a special material for maximum comfort and control.

In some other country, he's going to exhibit this "perfect" sword.  Mike thinks it's cool.  Crysta does not really care.

During the course of her visit, a portal opens up at a wall in Mike's apartment.  On the other side is a D'Warvine named... let's say Grom.

Grom is a fairly well-known warrior.  He's a force to be reckoned with, but not due to his skill.  His fighting skills are a little bit lacking; just above average, actually.  What he does have, however, is an unrivaled willingness to take damage and an ability to ignore it pain.

He's long since been undefeated in battle, but he is on familiar terms with countless healers throughout the land.  He also does possess some moderate healing skills.  His basic tactic is to strike you while your weapon is stuck in him someplace not vital.  He doesn't start with that plan, but that's usually how it turns out.

His body is covered in scars.

He's gregarious, outgoing, cunning, ballsy, unashamed, and slightly lecherous and although still a good guy, he's primarily driven by his own self-interests.

He and Sensha have a mutual respect and are each other's greatest ally and closest friend.  They are often together during whatever adventure has captured their interest, but to give you an idea of how they differ:  If they were walking down the street, and saw a thug roughing up someone, Sensha would go give the thug a pounding while Grom would most likely ignore it.

On the other hand, if someone were about to be killed, then he would do something about it, even if begrudgingly.

Crysta is shocked, amazed, confused, etc., at the appearance of this portal as well as the short, hairy, beefy person... and the forest that seems to be behind him.

Mike is surprised only that he's seeing Grom again, and that Grom is telling him that he needs him to come help rescue Sensha.

I have not yet thought out a scenario that justifies Grom having someone go through the trouble of opening a portal to retrieve Mike, but for it to be believable to all parties eventually involved, as well as for the future story line, It has to be a combination of a misunderstanding about who captured Sensha, as well as some ulterior motive for Grom.

So, Mike agrees to go, and Crysta, being a bit impetuous and curious, insists on going with him.  Mike grabs a sword that Crysta thought was just decorative, and they both go through the portal.

On the other side of the portal, in dialogue on the way to help Sensha, it is revealed that Mike has been there before.

He had spent a year (give or take) helping them, but also just staying and exploring, since they knew that a year is only one week for Earth.  He had some time to spare.

I have not come up with a name for people who specialize in opening portals, but the person who opened this one was part of the group during his first entry and exit.

I'll call him Bob, because opening this portal was his last act in life.  He was injured at the time, and then died once Mike and Crysta were through.  Don't feel too bad.  He's in the prequel.

On their way to rescue Sensha, they actually meet her coming to find them.  Sensha's in a good mood and wondering why they called Mike back, why they were so worried about her, and why Bob was not with them.
