One Night In The Shadow: The Goodbye
All we can do is look,
we know that we must part.
As our eyes shed their saddened tears,
and I hold your hand to my broken heart.

Mutual pain with mutual love,
and regret that's all too clear.
We realize that you must,
no matter how much we want you here.

After only such a short time,
we had to have one night of passion.
Too much to let go so fast,
we had to share our devotion.

I have so many questions,
and a fear held deep within.
If we release from our embrace,
will we ever meet again.

I've given up my plea,
accepted it as fact.
That you must leave my arms, but still,
I fear I'll never have you back.

The more of you I hold,
the more I can't let go.
My forehead pressed to yours I feel,
your breath so warm below.

It sooths me in this chilling rain,
as your kiss and tears on my cheek.
If I could prevent our separation,
that way I would seek.

You speak your words with trembling lips,
while we wish them not to be.
Gradually we move apart,
you move away from me.

I try so hard to let go,
my head sounds like alarms.
I've released you to my fingertips,
I can't, one last time in my arms.

Our tears flow like the raindrops,
a tighter hold, a final try.
A mutual attempt to ease the pain,
but we must say goodbye.

Slowly you pull away,
walking backward your eyes still see.
My only weakness you've helped me find,
letting you go is hard for me.

Knowing that I feel that way,
makes it that much more painful for you.
We had one night of true devotion,
and hope for more is all we can do.
This is the sequel to "One Night In The Shadow".
This one was not written to any song. It's just a poem.
