Fire
Her eyes cast out into the night
and darkened clouds she saw
Thunder rolled and lighting flashed
and black birds they did caw
She looked down from the window
to see her man walking away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay

Through teary eyes she sees him turn
to see her in her pain
He waves his hand because he knows
he mayn't return again
Her fingers stretch to touch him
as he turns to walk away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay

His blade upon his back
in the scabbard that she made
Glinted to her once before
was lost among the shades
Then only in her thoughts
could she see him walk away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay

Hours at the window
after call and after horn
The fire grew into the night
despite the raging storm
She weeped that her last thoughts
were of him walking away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay

The storm and cries soon died
yet the fire remained to burn
Until a new day broke
she stood awaiting his return
Daylight made her rue all
that made him turn and walk away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay

She threw her to her bed
into her pillow mourned
Her man she lost for their land
and the pride she scorned
She could be in his arms now
if he hadn't walked away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay

Came midday to her slowly
and as opening the door
She saw there standing in the light
the man that left the night before
Her man she thought was lost
when turned and walked away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay

Into his arms she threw her
upon his lips she kissed
And down her face ran tears of joy
to the smile that he missed
His news was all was theirs to keep
because he'd walked away
Toward the fire on the hill
where blood and steel would lay
I think of it as a mini-epic. I just hope it's not too repetitive.
