Remembrances
It shatters me, but matters to me
to hear the sound on stone and dirt
to see the soft last fragments fall
inspiring phantom thoughts of you I see
moving slowly, spreading their arms out wide
then embracing me
like I did you
then the flames and ice go through
until I can no longer move
my body, a chilling empty space
yet I can feel the burning down my face
like the times I'd sit and stare at you
and beg you just one thing to do
then you would hold my face
and make me feel
as your gentle lips let me know you were real
then I would believe we were together
then I would believe we were forever
but during times like this
I'm standing like we used to
I don't know why I still do
in every storm I hope to see you in the rain
This poem was inspired by, and sort of written to, the song, "Prayers For Rain", by The Cure.

A former penpal read this poem at the funeral of one of her friends.
