Random Stuff 03

In the most recent episode of Who Wants To Be A Superhero (see Sci-Fi Channel page version), Stan asked them to stand up, one by one, in front of each other, and say who they think should be eliminated.  Creature went first, and what she said both surprised and pleased me.  She said, in summary, that as she looked at the rest of them and their performances, she was wondering what she was doing there, and then she said that she should be the one to be eliminated.

This pleased me because it reflected part of my own view.  Of the remaining, she was the least superhero-like (superheroic, if you will).  As weird as it sounds to say it, she was not taking it as seriously as the others.

All but two of the others also offered themselves up for elimination.  Of course, the real test was for the quality of self-sacrifice, so those two were the ones on the chopping block.  I don't remember what brought all this back to mind, a full week later, but I was thinking about it last night.  When I watched the episode, I didn't like how it went down, but last night I put myself there.

I went through variations of what I would have said if I were in the competition.  It would have went something like this... except better, since I don't recall any versions word for word.

Self-sacrifice is noble on the surface, but what's noble on the surface is not always what's best for the greater good.  At that point, nobility becomes selfish.  While I do not believe that I am the best of us, I also do not believe I am the worst of us, and I do not believe that the world is best served by giving the worst of us a free pass in the name of my own nobility.

While I would freely sacrifice myself if the situation called for it, I do not believe this one does, except only to serve myself.  The question was, who do I believe should be eliminated, and that is the question I will answer.  I believe the person who is, over-all, the least superheroic is the one who should be eliminated, and ALL things taken into consideration, I find that person to be Creature.

My reasons are essentially a reflection of her own.  As she said, she does not know why she is here, and I have often wondered that of her, myself.  I am undoubtedly hurting myself in saying it, but that is my honest answer.

For the record, Feedback is looking like #1 to me, now.

I watched Neil Gaiman's MirrorMask last week, as well.  Rather good.  The only things I've seen of his, as far as movies and TV are concerned, are MirrorMask and Neverwhere, so I may be making too much of it, but I am wondering if the same person chose the lead actresses, and how much say, if any, Neil had in it, because in both cases, amazingly beautiful choices were made.

I'll start with Laura Fraser, who was Door in Neverwhere.  Understand that I am speaking primarily of the appearance of the characters.  While Laura Fraser is not ugly, she doesn't generally do anything for me, although I did find her quite fetching as Kate the Farrier in A Knight's Tale.

I was positively smitten by her as Door.  There are surprisingly few pictures of her as Door, but here's the best one I could find.

In MirrorMask, is the generally more attractive Stephanie Leonidas as Helena & Anti-Helena.  These are some of my favorites.  I think the last one is so beautiful, it hurts.

Check out this wonderful website for, among other things, some video clips of the movie.  I highly recommend the last one, entitled "Mirrormask: Close to you".

Anyway, it makes me wonder if the female lead characters in his other movies will also be incredibly attractive brunettes.  Of course, I am kind of assuming there will be any female lead characters.

What I said about that last picture reminds me of a great line from Frou Frou's, "It's Good To Be In Love".

You're so beautiful.
I'm black and blue all over.

If you've never heard anything by them, I highly recommend doing so.  They are amazing; especially lyrically.  You can hear samples on their website.  Go listen.  Go now....  Now!  Hurry!

Imogen Heap is a wonderful vocalist.  Strangely, I don't care for her solo work.  I don't think it's bad.  It just doesn't hold me.  It's fine for something in the background when I have no say in the matter.

I'm currently in need of about $30, and probably will be for a while.  Does anyone want to give it to me?

Yesterday, I watched Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector (enjoyed it) and made note of one Iris Bahr, who played partner, Amy Butlin.  I decided to do a little research on her.  Went to her website and checked out her bio.  I gotta say, I'm a little turned on.

I think that's all for today.
