Who Feared Monsters Under The Bed?

I just watched Doctor Who: The Best Of The Monsters.  I realized more than ever how much people reference monsters under the bed or in the closet, and having their parents check for monsters.

It makes me wonder how many people actually thought that kind of stuff as a kid.  I mean, is it just a very symbolic idea that gets used a lot, or does it actually happen to a significant number of kids?

I've never been afraid that there was something under the bed or in my closet.  Not really.  I've "toyed" with the idea a few times, but not for more than a few minutes, if that.  I've certainly never felt any need for an adult to check for me.

I think I may have checked, myself, a two or three times, and a little part of me kinda hoped that I would find something.

It's just something that makes me wonder just how a-typical a person I was/am.  I'm not trying to sound impressive or anything, but when I hear people talk about things that they are/were afraid of, it's just all foreign to me.

What few fears I have are things like accidentally seriously hurting someone, because of all the times I've accidentally not-seriously hurt people.  Kick in the head, dislocated joint, playing a little too rough.

Snakes, spiders, heights, alien invasion?  What evs.
