Renovation - Week 5

Monday, November 5, 2007

I watched last Friday's episode of Glenn Beck, where he spent the entire hour talking to Penn Gillette.  The first time he had Penn on, I said I wished he'd spend an hour with him, and now he has.  Yea!  But one hour just isn't enough.  I could listen to them talk for three hours.

Hearing the two of them talk to each other fills my heart with hope and joy.

I'm back to wearing my leg weights again.  Picked up at the same weight as I left (8 pounds per leg), and it feels alright.  I need to regain my grace while wearing them, but that will come.

Mighty Morphine Power Drainers.  Think about it.

I screwed down the Hardibacker panels.  I intend to get started on the ceiling, tomorrow.  I will have to go into the roof and move things around a bit, namely the old insulation.  That'll be great gobs of fun.  It's been hot, but there's rain nearby, and it's windy tonight, so I'm hoping it will be cool tomorrow.

I wasn't in the roof as much as I thought, but it was still cooler than it has been.  The slope of the roof kept me from getting to the bathroom area, so I did everything from below.  We wanted to put a floor in the roof over the bathroom, but I don't know how well that's going to work.

The old ceiling is gone, and I put up a couple of long 2x4's to re-enforce the rafters.  Some of the wood used to build this house was apparently from a house that caught fire, because the rafters up there have char on them.

A new vent/heater/light will be put up, but I don't want to do anything big until we actually get that in hand, so I'll know exactly what measurements I'll need to cut.

"If you won't tolerate speech that you hate, then you don't understand the first amendment."  Makes me think of all the Liberals trying to silence people.  Oddly enough, the quote is from a self-proclaimed "leftist".  Must be an old-school Liberal, or just a modern Liberal hypocrite.

It may be a few weeks before we can get the vent/heater/light, so I won't be doing any work in the bathroom for a while.

I am inexplicably unable to get any web pages to load.  I can access the web normally otherwise, like with GetRight Browser and McAfee downloading updates, but IE won't load any pages.

I notice that the SciFi channel has decided to make their logo green as well.  How disappointing.  These superficial gestures are sad, but even moreso given the man-made global warming bullshit they represent.  But then there's that other detail, which is even more sad, namely all the people are actually moved by those gestures.

The figurative and literal sighs of relief that these companies and whatnot are "going green", whether they actually are or not.  The same people who think Rev. Al Gore actually gives a crap about the environment, no doubt.

Iran wants nuclear weapons to destroy America (the great satan) and Isrial (the little satan), and Mexican drug cartels are terrorizing border towns with kidnappings and murders, but THANK GOD CNN changed the color of their logo from red to green.  Now America is a little safer.  Oh, pardon: now the WORLD is a little safer.

It ocurred to me to do a system restore to try to solve the webpage problem.  It seems to have worked.  I'm not convinced that McAfee wasn't the cause of the problem, so I guess we'll find out when I reinstall the updates.

Everything's still working.  Still don't know what the problem was.

I watched Glenn Beck's hour-long sit-down with Duncan Hunter, who is running for President.  So far, he's the only candidate that hasn't left me wanting.  The only one who hasn't left me with a distinct sense of doubt about him.  We'll see how that goes during the coming year.
