Ghost In The Vase
Thursday, August 17, 2000

This dream was really awesome, but there is one thing I'm not too sure about.  In the dream, my dream-self has the memory of having a similar experience quite some time ago, but in real life, I don't remember having it, but that's not to say I didn't have it.  So basically, I'm not sure if the memory is entirely dreamed up.  Anyway, here's what the memory dream was, as best as I can recall.

I was with two of the Ghostbusters, and we were in a house, and we came upon a ghost of a child.  I brought the child to my house, and other places with me (the Ghostbusters are out of the picture now).

At night, another ghost started doing things to irritate me.  I don't remember how I figured this out (I guess just pure dream knowledge), but I found out that ghost was of the child's mother.  That mother did not have the greatest of care for her child, and one day, she had the child go to a man's house to do some filming for what she thought would be a TV commercial or something.  I don't recall exactly what kind of filming it was, but it may have been child porn.

Anyway, the man killed the child.  I have no knowledge of how the mother lived the rest of her life, but after she died, her deep seeded guilt for being a lousy parent turned into seething hatred for anyone who tried to take good care of her child, but the child did not know it was his/her mother.  I should tell you that throughout the dream, the sex of the child changed, but it was mostly male.

Okay, so in the main dream, I'm with two of the Ghostbusters, and because I have memory of these things happening before, I know exactly where to look for the ghost child.  He's in a glass vase, on the lower shelf of some cabinet at the foot of a bed.  It was a cabinet that should have been in a kitchen or dining room, so I don't know what it was doing in the bedroom.

Anyway, I open the cabinet, look in and see the child curled up hiding in the vase.  I reach in and grab the vase, pull it out, and the dream moves on.

Ghostbusters gone, I'm at home, but I don't recall what all we did there at this point.  I took him with me to my grandfather's house, where a bunch of relatives and other people were gathered.  Though the child was not always visible, when he was, it seemed only I could see him.

All events that took place in that house are not clear, but it got dark while I was there, and a few weird little things started happening.  I don't think I made too much of it, because the main issues in that part of the dream was with my relatives there.  It was a sort of side story, which I don't remember enough about to bother trying to tell.

Later, I'm back at home, and then the really weird stuff starts happening.  It's nothing dangerous, but it's things ranging from cabinet doors opening and radios turning on, to glass things falling and breaking, and a couple of situations where she picked me up off the ground about a foot.

The main one of those I recall was in the utility room doorway.  My father was putting clothes in the washer, which is right by the door.  I had some kind of tie or strap loose around my neck, and the ghost grabs the end and pulls me up.  My father doesn't believe in ghosts, so he's not even looking at me, though I'm practically right in front of him.

Later in the kitchen, I try to tell him there's a ghost trying to hurt me, but he just doesn't believe it.  He goes to bed, and my mother comes out to sit and read in the living room.  I tell her about it, and though she hesitates to believe it at first, a few other things happen, including a weird tiny radio nearby turning on a couple of times.

For some reason, I start remembering an (non existent in real life) episode of the newer Outer Limits.  In this episode, both the child and mother characters are in it, but they are alien creatures instead of ghosts.  These creatures are like a cross between Klingons and the aliens from Predator.

They look like Predators with the size and face similar to Klingons.  The mother is a queen of sorts, and she wants the child back, and she has a few troops with her, and all of them are able to turn themselves invisible, and all this is taking place on some other planet.

I'm making comparisons between what's happening to me now, to that episode, but only to myself.  What was happening was real, and my mother now believed me, I think it was because the ghost tried to pick her up too, but I still didn't want to risk tainting my credibility by telling about having seen that Outer Limits, it being so similar.  One might say it was my imagination brought on by the TV show.  Anyway, my mother yelled into the bedroom that it was real; that there really was a ghost in the house.  And I'm afraid I woke up before anything was resolved.
